On 7 April, the DSA organized a group visit to the National Gallery of Zimbabwe—an exceptional space where history, art, and creativity converge, reflecting the light, energy, and harmony of both nature and society.
It was a thought-provoking morning that revealed the richness and diversity of local art and culture. We were honored to be welcomed by Raphael Chikukwa, Executive Director of the Gallery, who guided us through its distinguished history and ongoing evolution, including exciting upgrades ahead of the CIMAM Annual Conference, hosted by the International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art, which will take place at the Gallery from 20–22 November this year.
Special thanks go to Francesca Marufu from the Education Department for expertly guiding DSA members through the current exhibitions, including Unburdened—a powerful reflection marking International Men’s Day—as well as Amplifying Affected Voices, presented by TIBA in collaboration with the University of Zimbabwe, and Zvatiri by Option Nyahunzvi.
Filled with strong impressions and deep emotion, we left the Gallery with the sense that we had discovered a truly unique place—one to which we will gladly return, always finding something new and meaningful, and deepening our appreciation of this remarkable country, whose richness and warm hospitality continue to inspire us.
