2nd Diplomat Annual Golf Day

Diplomat Golf Day

Teeing off for global good

By Whitney Sibanda

The day was about more than scorecards. It was about connection — uniting across cultures, missions, and languages over a shared love of sunshine and mildly exaggerated golf jokes.

These remarks by the President of the Diplomatic Association of Zimbabwe, Ms Mirjana Grujic, capture the mood at the second edition of the Diplomat Golf Day, held at the Country Club in Harare, recently.

As Ms Grujic, who was the Guest of Honour at the event’s Prize Giving Ceremony, aptly put it:

“What an extraordinary day it has been! The sun behaved (mostly), the greens looked less like sandpits than usual, and no diplomatic incidents were caused by anyone’s swing — so I’d call that a success!”

The second edition of the Diplomat Golf Day, hosted by Diplomat Media, drew 140 players from 23 corporates, 10 embassies and NGOs.

“We are really humbled by the overwhelming endorsement and support the Diplomat Golf Day has received. It really captures the spirit of the event. The Diplomat Golf Day is more than just a game — it’s a platform for driving positive change, building relationships, promoting international cooperation, and supporting community development initiatives,” said Reginald Chapfunga, the Executive Director of Diplomat Media.

Commenting on the inspiration behind the Diplomat Golf Day, Chapfunga added:

“We believe that sport has the power to unite people, promote social inclusion, and drive sustainable development. Golf generates millions in economic impact and delivers significant charitable giving to communities nationwide. Through the Diplomat Golf Day, we are committed to making a positive impact in our community. The Diplomat Golf Day is also a platform to connect ambassadors, business leaders, government officials, heads of development agencies, and influential members of society in a relaxed and informal setting,” reiterated Chapfunga.
